Welcome to the official New Orleans EMS website. As the sole 911 EMS provider for the City of New Orleans, the men and women of New Orleans EMS take tremendous pride in providing superior prehospital emergency care using the latest technology along with progressive regional protocols to the citizens and visitors of New Orleans. New Orleans is roughly 350 square miles with 170 of those miles being water. We serve population of nearly 350,000 residents. Whereas before the storms of 2005 New Orleans EMS answered 50,000 calls for service, current forecasts predict the 2011 call volume will exceed 56,000 requests for assistance. New Orleans EMS serves the city by operating between seven and eleven advanced life support (ALS) units around the clock. These ambulances are staffed with 100 full-time employees made up of roughly 65 EMT-paramedics, 35 EMT-basics and a Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physician. In addition to routine emergency services, New Orleans EMS also has a special operations division that includes bike medics, tactical paramedics and medics trained in swift water rescue. New Orleans EMS also operates an ALS light rescue truck, which is the primary vehicle extrication unit for the City. The City of New Orleans is known for its hospitality, attracting millions of visitors from across world each year. Not only is New Orleans EMS chartered to provide emergency medical services, it is also tasked with providing coverage for these large scale event. New Orleans EMS provides coverage for Mardi Gras, French Quarter Festival, BCS Bowl Games, Bayou Classic, Essence Festival, New Year's Eve, and several other large scale events that remind our visitors that you're different here.
