City of New Orleans 2013 Summer Programs
The City's 2013 summer recreation and job programs offered by JOB1 and the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) will provide tremendous opportunities for New Orleans youth to stay active, safe and engaged this summer.
This year NORDC will offer 34 youth (ages 4-12) camps which will serve nearly 4,000 children across the city through partnerships with schools, non-profits and faith-based organizations. There will be 7 teen camps (ages 13-17) which will serve 1,000 teens across the city. In partnership with JOB1, teen camps will offer local teenagers career exploration seminars to allow for exposure to a variety of job fields. Additionally, teens will earn a stipend of $75 per week.
The City will operate 13 pools this summer, including the pool at the Treme Center which is opening for the first time since Katrina. Approximately 7700 youth will be served by swimming lessons and programming.
On Saturday, March 30, the City will host a Summer Expo that will offer parents an opportunity to sign their children up for City and partner sponsored camps, and programming. The Summer Expo will take place from 10am to 2pm at the Joe W. Brown Recreation Center, 5601 Read Boulevard in New Orleans East. Sign up for teen camps ends Thursday, March 28.
