NEW ORLEANS,LA — Today, Mayor Landrieu joined Gov. Bobby Jindal and Chiquita Brands International Inc. Senior Vice President Mario Pacheco to announce the company will relocate its shipping operations from the Port of Gulfport in Mississippi to the Port of New Orleans. Chiquita plans to ship 60,000 to 78,000 twenty-foot-equivalent units, or TEUs, per year at the Port of New Orleans, representing a roughly 15 percent increase in current container volumes there.

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and District C Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer announced that the City of New Orleans and the Louisiana Land Trust (LLT) will partner to demolish the former City incinerator site located at 2300 Hendee Street in Algiers. The blighted, City-owned structure has sat vacant since it closed in 1975. The demolition is the first step in an overall strategy to redevelop the site and put it back into commerce.

NEW ORLEANS, LA– The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is pleased to announce that low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines will add two (2) new destinations from New Orleans. On August 1, 2014, Spirit Airlines will begin a daily non-stop flight from New Orleans to Houston (IAH) and Ft. Lauderdale (FLL) with their all-Airbus fleet. The flight to Ft. Lauderdale is timed to allow for their many connections to Central America from that city.

NEW ORLEANS,LA - New Orleans' tourism industry welcomed 9.28 million visitors in 2013, an increase of three percent, or about 272,000 people, from 2012 (9.01 million). The 9.28 million visitors spent $6.47 billion, a 4.5 percent increase over 2012 and the highest spending in the city's history, according to a study released today.

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The New Orleans Aviation Board (NOAB) and City of New Orleans are aggressively seeking and encouraging DBEs (disadvantage business enterprises) to participate on the new $650 million North Terminal project at the Airport. Since the January announcement of the plans for a new terminal, officials have hosted two DBE outreach sessions to inform and encourage local DBE participation. The terminal is set to open ahead of the 300th anniversary of New Orleans in May 2018.

NEW ORLEANS– Today, The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk hosted a major job fair, in partnership with JOB1 in the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development.The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk, and its participating tenants received applicants for the more than 1,600 permanent part-time and full-time positions in management, sales, food service, administrative and more. More than 4,200 job seekers attended the event to mingle and interview with Riverwalk tenants.
