(October 27, 2011)- Superintendent Ronal Serpas is officially the new Fourth Vice President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Superintendent Serpas, who ran unopposed for the post, was sworn in yesterday in Chicago at the IACP’s annual convention. His position as Fourth Vice President ensures that he will be President of the IACP in 4 years. The IACP, which was founded in 1892, is the world’s oldest and largest nonprofit organization of police leadership. Today it boasts more than 20,000 members in more than 100 countries. Members include leaders of international, federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Superintendent Serpas has been a member of the organization for 20 years. In addition to his Vice-Presidential duties, Superintendent Serpas will have oversight of several of the IACP’s most prominent committees, including the Civil Rights Committee, the Police Professional Standard, Image and Ethics Committee, as well as the Police Administration Committee. The most significant benefit of IACP membership is that law enforcement leaders immediately become part of a global communication system in which the newest, most effective crime- fighting methods and leadership initiatives are shared by the experts. With Superintendent Serpas as Fourth Vice President of the organization, he as well as other NOPD leaders will be able to take part in countless events and discussions which will expose them to the best crime-fighting techniques the world has to offer. Superintendent Serpas’ acceptance of the Fourth Vice- Presidency will also call widespread attention to the progress being made within the New Orleans Police Department as it undergoes major reform. Serpas said, “I am honored and humbled to become the Fourth Vice President of the IACP. Some of the greatest minds in policing belong to this distinguished, reputable organization.
