DOUBLE MURDER INVESTIGATION

New Orleans, La., -- This evening, members of the New Orleans Police Department are investigating the murders of a 66-year-old man, identified Myrtis Bickham and his 31-year-old grandson whose name is not being released, pending the notification of his family. The offense occurred shortly before 9:00 p.m., outside 2324 Ursuline Street.

According to investigators, the two men were on the front porch of the residence when several unidentified persons approached from across the street and began firing multiple gunshots in the direction of the house. The older male was shot and sustained apparent gunshot wounds to the head and torso area. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The younger victim was also shot and sustained wounds also to head and torso. Emergency Medical Technicians transported him to the Medical Center of Louisiana, where he died hours later. Investigators found loaded pistol on his person.

Investigators are attempting to determine if the suspects were in a vehicle or approached on foot, as well as a motive. First District Homicide Detective Edward Weatherly is in charge of the investigation. Crimestoppers is offering up to a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person(s) responsible for this crime. Callers do not have to give their name or testify in court to receive the reward.
