Welcome to the official website of the City of New Orleans Mosquito, Termite & Rodent Control Board. Our primary mission is to administer and evaluate mosquito control activities and monitor the populations of disease and virus transmitting mosquitoes and consult with appropriate authorities. Part of this mission is to decrease the incidences of disease transmission, economic loss and medical emergencies caused by pests (i.e. mosquitoes, rodents, termites) by managing pest populations through a series of integrated approaches including surveillance, source reduction, biological control, sanitation, community education and adult/larval abatement operations. This website is designed to offer information to the public on pest identification, biology and management as well as steps you can take to help reduce mosquito, rodent, termite and other pest populations in and around your home or business. CHAPTER 21, City Charter. NEW ORLEANS MOSQUITO CONTROL BOARD Section 4-2101. Composition. The New Orleans Mosquito Control Board shall consist of one councilmember selected by the Council, the Mayor or a representative designated by the Mayor, the Director of the Department of Health, the Director of the Department of Parks and Parkways and six other electors domiciled in the City, who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council and who shall serve six year terms, provided that the terms shall be so arranged that the term of one member shall expire each year. There shall be at all times not less than one qualified entomologist on the Board. Section 4-2102. Functions. The Board shall: (1) Administer and evaluate mosquito control activities. (2) Monitor the populations of disease and virus transmitting mosquitoes and consult with appropriate authorities.
