To expand upon that, the mission of the Vieux Carré Commission is to protect, preserve, and maintain the distinct architectural, historic character, and zoning integrity of the Vieux Carré as mandated by the Louisiana State Constitution, the City Charter, the City Code and the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance. These purposes are accomplished through the regulation of all repairs, alterations and construction that affect the exterior (whether visible from the street or not) of any building situated on private property in the French Quarter. Furthermore, when it is discovered that there are violations of the pertinent codes that define how these properties are to be preserved, altered or maintained, the VCC is further empowered to charge owners, or others involved in such infractions, with violations of the City’s regulations and to seek the correction of such infractions. The area of the VCC’s jurisdiction is bounded by Iberville St., N. Rampart St., Esplanade Ave., and the Mississippi River.
