The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) is charged with responding to alarms of fire, performing suppression functions, and assuring complete extinguishment. The priorities of the NOFD are life safety, incident stabilization and property preservation.
“The New Orleans Fire Department will respond to all emergency situations in the City of New Orleans to protect and save life and property. Further, the Department will strive to reduce the incidence of fire and the loss of life and injuries to civilians and fire personnel."

FREE smoke detector installed by NOFD for residents The New Orleans Fire Department purchases smoke detectors and installs them free of charge for citizens in need. Public Affairs coordinates the efforts with Suppression who will come to citizens home and install up to two (2) smoke detectors in a residence. Batteries will also be replaced in the smoke detectors of elderly or physically challenged persons who cannot change their batteries themselves. If you or someone you know needs a smoke detector installed or their battery replaced complete the request form or call (504) 658-4714. This program is made possible from donations to the Friends of the New Orleans Fire Department.
