School and Out-of-School Sector

The School and Out-of-School sector is working to increase access to physical activity and healthy eating opportunities for youth in New Orleans.

Fill out the Fit NOLA School Based Recreation and Nutrition Survey to become a Fit NOLA-certified school and learn about ways to promote physical activity and nutrition within your institution. Should you wish to apply using a hard copy of the survey, download the pdf.

*Please note, all your school's information will be kept confidential and be used exclusively by the Fit NOLA School and Out-of-School Sector to determine your designation.

Who should fill out the Fit NOLA School Survey?

We recommend school administrators, athletic directors, or school wellness coordinators complete this assessment for your institution.

What do I need to complete the Fit NOLA School Survey?

You'll need about one hour and access to school policies to complete the survey. Please note, the online assessment must be completed in a single sitting. Responses will not be stored for later review.

What happens after my school submits the survey?

Following assessment submission, the Fit NOLA School Sector will score the submission and the Fit NOLA School Sector Coordinator will contact your school contact once received.

How long does my designation last?

Fit NOLA designations last for 2 years, with a chance to reapply after one year.

When is the 2017 deadline to apply?

Thank you so much for your interest in becoming a Fit NOLA Designated School!  The designation process for the 2016-17 year is now closed.  The survey link is still open.  If you would like complete the survey, your school will be considered for the next designation round.

Who currently funds the Fit NOLA School Designation Assessment?

The Fit NOLA School Designation program is funded by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, The United States Conference of Mayors and the American Beverage Association Foundation. Fit NOLA continues to connect with potential partners to support the program.

Resources for Schools

To assist New Orleans schools wishing to promote physical activity and healthy eating, the Institute for Women and Ethnic Studies (IWES) created the Healthy by Default school resource guide with the assistance of a CDC REACH grant and Fit NOLA partners.

  • Increase Orleans Parish schools’ resources related to physical activity and healthy eating
  • Connect students, school staff, and parents with community resources related to healthy eating and physical activity
