Ways You Can Get Involved

Advisory Board (HCHAB)

The Health Care for the Homeless Advisory Board (HCHAB) has been brought together to positively affect the healthcare delivery at HCH.  HCHAB members shall be individuals who are served by the health center and who, as a group, represent the individuals being served (or to be served) in terms of demographic factors, such as race, ethnicity, and gender.

  • Patient board members must be a current registered patient of HCH and must have accessed HCH services in the past 24 months to receive at least one or more in-scope service(s) that generated an HCH visit.
  • The non-patient members shall be representatives of the community, in which the catchment area is located and shall be selected for their expertise in community affairs, local government, finance and banking, legal affairs, trade unions, and other commercial and industrial concerns, or social service agencies within the community.
  • Health center employees and immediate family members (i.e., spouses, children, parents, or siblings through blood, adoption, or marriage) of employees may not be health center board members.

The mission of the HCHAB is to improve the overall health and wellbeing of our city’s homeless population by the following action steps:

  1. Advocating for the patients who utilize the healthcare services delivered at the HCH clinics.
  2. Providing recommendations and advising the HCH leadership to better serve the homeless population.
  3. Encouraging persons experiencing homelessness to seek healthcare and maintain a healthy lifestyle, regardless of their situation or ability to pay, by using the services offered at the clinic during their time of need.

The HCHAB will assist the program with recognizing opportunities and areas of improvements, while overcoming and facing economic challenges to deliver quality patient care, as well as accomplishing our mission.
