City Sells All 170 Properties in August Adjudicated Property Auction

NEW ORLEANS – On Aug. 5, the second in a series of innovative online monthly auctions for adjudicated properties brought in over $4 million after 417 people placed more than 14,600 bids to buy all 170 properties that were for sale.

Mayor Landrieu and Councilmember Gray to Hold District E Community Meeting on Monday

NEW ORLEANS, LA – On Monday, Aug. 10, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and Councilmember James Gray will host the District E community meeting to discuss budget priorities as the City begins its 2016 budgeting for outcomes process. Other City officials attending will include deputy mayors, New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Superintendent Michael Harrison, New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) Superintendent Tim McConnell and other department and agency leaders.

Mayor Landrieu Issues Statement on 50th Anniversary of Voting Rights Act

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Aug. 6, 2015, marks 50 years since President Lyndon Baines Johnson signed into law the Voting Rights Act of 1965 guaranteeing African Americans the right to vote. The law made it illegal to impose restrictions on federal, state and local elections that were designed to deny the vote to African Americans.

Public Meeting Dates on Relocation of Confederate Monuments Announced

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans announced the schedule for public hearings about the proposed relocation of the Robert E Lee statue at Lee Circle; the Jefferson Davis statue on Jefferson Davis Parkway; the P.G.T. Beauregard statue on Esplanade Avenue at the entrance to City Park; and, the Battle of Liberty Place Monument at Iberville Street.

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans will host its second in a series of online monthly auctions for adjudicated properties on Aug. 5, 2015, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., subject to a rolling close in the case of last-minute competitive bidding.

Registration Deadlines for NORDC Fall Athletics Quickly Approaching

NEW ORLEANS— The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) is reminding all families that registration for fall youth athletic programs including cheerleading, football and volleyball are quickly approaching. Throughout the year, NORDC offers athletic activities to youth across the city through individual and team sports.

NORDC and USA Football to Host Volunteer Football Coaches Clinic at Joe W. Brown

NEW ORLEANS— The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) will hold USA Heads Up football training for NORDC volunteer football coaches on Aug. 1, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Joe W. Brown Park. NORDC invests in comprehensive training for youth volunteer football coaches with clinics that cover concussion awareness, proper equipment fitting, and Heads Up Tackling fundamentals.

Season Nine of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball Continues

NEW ORLEANS—On Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, the City of New Orleans, the New Orleans Pelicans and PlayNola will continue the ninth season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball, which provides safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for young men through the game of basketball. Mentorship and educational support are also key components of this initiative.
