NEW ORLEANS, LA—Tomorrow, the City of New Orleans, the New Orleans Pelicans and PlayNola will continue the sixth season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball. Midnight Basketball focuses on providing safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for young men through the game of basketball. Mentorship and educational support are also key components of this initiative. NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball is free of charge and open to males over 16 years old.

NEW ORLEANS, LA— Today, the City’s Department of Sanitation announced that on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Iron Mountain, a storage and information management company, will host a “Shred Day” at the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Center at 2829 Elysian Fields Avenue. Iron Mountain will provide an on-site mobile shred unit to securely and confidentially shred documents for free.

NEW ORLEANS, LA – On Saturday, April 12, 2014, the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) Teen Council will host the Teen Fun Challenge on Global Youth Service Day (GYSD). The Challenge is an afternoon of fun fitness games, stress reduction techniques, learning and nutrition education for teens at Joe W. Brown Memorial Park Track in New Orleans East, 5601 Read Blvd., from noon to 2 p.m. Activities are free and open to the public.

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Yesterday, Mayor Mitch Landrieu hosted representatives from the Orleans Parish Hospital Service District A, LCMC Health, Touro Infirmary and the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System for the signing of a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement to confirm LCMC as the operator of the New Orleans East Hospital. Mayor Landrieu, City officials and the Hospital Service District A (HSD) board broke ground on the hospital in January 2013 and expect it to open summer 2014.

NEW ORLEANS– Today, The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk hosted a major job fair, in partnership with JOB1 in the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development.The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk, and its participating tenants received applicants for the more than 1,600 permanent part-time and full-time positions in management, sales, food service, administrative and more. More than 4,200 job seekers attended the event to mingle and interview with Riverwalk tenants.

The community information session will explain the hiring process and detail services that will be available upon the hospital's opening.

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu joined City employees and civic and business leaders in introducing a package of reforms to make the City of New Orleans a great place to work. Among the changes are several Civil Service rule changes to improve the hiring and evaluation process, improve pay and pay flexibility, increase training opportunities, and allow managers more flexibility in giving performance-based promotions.
