Season Seven of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball Week 4

NEW ORLEANS, LA—TOMORROW, the City of New Orleans, the New Orleans Pelicans and PlayNola will continue the seventh season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball. Midnight Basketball focuses on providing safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for young men through the game of basketball. Mentorship and educational support are also key components of this initiative.

NEW ORLEANS, LA – On Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, the City’s Department of Sanitation will host another free paper shredding event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Center, 2829 Elysian Fields Avenue.

City Announces Third Round of Small Business Assistance Fund Loan Program

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Today, the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development will launch the third round of the Small Business Assistance Fund (SBAF) loan program, a financing opportunity created by Mayor Landrieu in partnership with NewCorp, Inc. to support the growth of new and existing small businesses. The application period will be on a rolling basis. SBAF applications are currently available online at www.newcorpinc.com.

NEW ORLEANS – Today, during the first annual Chief Resilience Officer (CRO) Summit, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Rockefeller Foundation President Dr. Judith Rodin, and 100 Resilient Cities President Michael Berkowitz announced the appointment of Jeff Hebert as the City’s Chief Resilience Officer (CRO).

NEW ORLEANS, LA – On Thursday, Nov. 6 at 10:15 AM, the Mayor of New Orleans, Mitch Landrieu, will join the President of the Rockefeller Foundation, Judith Rodin, and the 100 Resilient Cities President, Michael Berkowitz, to address the 100 Resilient Cities first annual Chief Resilience Officer Summit. As part of their keynote address, Mayor Landrieu, Dr. Rodin and Mr. Berkowitz will announce New Orleans’ own Chief Resilience Officer.

City of New Orleans to Hold Abandoned Vehicle Auction

NEW ORLEANS, LA – On Thursday, November 6, 2014, the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works will hold its fourth abandoned vehicle auction of 2014. The auction, located at Almonaster Auto Pound, 10200 Almonaster Avenue, will begin at 9:00 a.m. Vehicle preview day and buyer registration is Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. No one will be admitted after 3:30 p.m. for security reasons.

NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy in partnership with The New Orleans Video Access Center (NOVAC) announces Web Weekend 2014, an event for small screen content creators who want to learn about the craft, business, and opportunities of video on the web. NOVAC will present panel discussions, conversations, parties and featured video content from online and web series celebrities.

NEW ORLEANS – The Joe W. Brown Pool at 5601 Read Blvd. is temporarily closed for repairs. Repairs are anticipated to be completed in three weeks. During this time, shuttle service from the Treme Recreation Center at 900 N. Villere St. has been suspended.
