Mayor Landrieu Calls for Flags in City to be Lowered to Half-Staff Through Independence Day

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu ordered all American and City of New Orleans flags on City property in New Orleans to be lowered to half-staff beginning at dawn on June 20, 2015, and ending at dusk on July 4, 2015, in remembrance of and out of respect for the lives lost to hate and violence on the streets of America, as well as the nine lives lost in Wednesday’s shooting at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Charleston, S.C.

City Issues Traffic Advisory for Gert Town

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued a traffic advisory to temporarily closure portions of Drexel Dr. and Washington Ave. near Xavier University. The City is currently constructing an elevated pedestrian crossing over Washington Ave., the Washington Ave. Drainage Canal and Drexel Dr.

Mayor Landrieu Issues Statement on Passage of Trade Promotion Authority by U.S. House

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives voted to grant the Obama Administration Trade Promotion Authority. Trade Promotion Authority will pave the way for the President to negotiate trade agreements that will level the international playing field and create jobs by expanding U.S. exports. The bill now heads to the U.S. Senate for its consideration.

New Orleans Recognized as 2015 Playful City USA Community For Fourth Consecutive Year

NEW ORLEANS– The City of New Orleans has been recognized as a Playful City USA by KaBOOM!, a national non-profit organization dedicated to saving play. This is the fourth consecutive year New Orleans has earned this recognition. The organization named New Orleans as a “Playful City USA” for making a commitment to play and physical activity by investing in programs and spaces that increase the quantity and quality of play in the community.

Mayor Landrieu Announces Commission to Restore Historic Gallier Hall

NEW ORLEANS, LA— On Wednesday, June 17, 2015, Mayor Mitch Landrieu introduced the committee charged with raising private funding to restore historic Gallier Hall. The Gallier Hall Preservation Committee seeks to raise $5 million for interior restoration of this important public civic space, in addition to the public funds committed to restore the building’s exterior.

Mayor Landrieu, New Orleans Business Alliance Board of Directors Names Quentin L. Messer, Jr. New CEO

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Mitch Landrieu and the Board of Directors of the New Orleans Business Alliance (NOLABA), the public-private partnership charged with economic development for the City of New Orleans, has hired Quentin L. Messer, Jr. to lead NOLABA as president and CEO effective July 1, 2015. He has most recently served as assistant secretary for Louisiana Economic Development (LED).

Mayor Landrieu Announces Committee to Restore Gallier Hall

NEW ORLEANS, LA— On Wednesday, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will introduce the committee charged with leading the efforts to restore Gallier Hall. The Gallier Hall Preservation Committee will work to leverage public and private funding to restore the exterior and interior of the historic Gallier Hall.

NORDC Flag Football Registration with the New Orleans VooDoo

NEW ORLEANS— The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) invites New Orleans residents aged 9 to 14 to register for NORDC flag football on Thursday, June 18, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Harrell Stadium, 2201 Leonidas Street in New Orleans.  Members of the New Orleans Voodoo flag football team will be at the event to work with all current and new NORDC flag football participants on flag football skills.
