City Issues Traffic Advisory for Prytania Street Between Peniston Street and General Taylor Street

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued a traffic advisory for a travel lane closure on Prytania St. between Peniston St. and General Taylor St. to facilitate road repairs as part of the FEMA-funded Recovery Roads Program designed to restore sub-surface and roadway damages related to Hurricane Katrina.

City Shelters Homeless Individuals and Conducts Cleaning Under Pontchartrain Expressway

NEW ORLEANS—Today, in keeping with Mayor Landrieu’s efforts to prevent, reduce, and end homelessness in New Orleans, the City of New Orleans sheltered 43 homeless individuals from multiple areas across New Orleans and conducted a thorough cleaning of the surface parking lots under the U.S. 90/Pontchartrain Expressway.

NORDC to Host Two Events Tonight

NEW ORLEANS— The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) Senior Choir will perform in concert on Friday, June 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Andrew P. Sanchez & Copelin-Byrd Multi-Service Center at 1616 Caffin Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s Fit NOLA initiative and Whole Foods Market together launched Healthy Heroes – a program to celebrate community members leading healthy efforts across New Orleans. The Healthy Hero program will give New Orleans residents an opportunity to receive recognition for their work in creating a culture of health within the metro area.

City Recognizes the American Diabetes Association of New Orleans as a Fit Business

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans Health Department (NOHD) today recognized the American Diabetes Association of New Orleans for achieving workplace wellness as part of the City’s Fit NOLA Business certification program. The designation as a ‘fit business’ recognizes the American Diabetes Association’s commitment to worksite wellness, which includes policies to encourage physical activity during the work day, healthy nutrition education programs to employees, and a tobacco-free campus.

Boil Water Advisory Cancelled for English Turn and Lower Coast Algiers

NEW ORLEANS - The Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans (S&WB), in consultation with the state Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH), has cancelled the boil water advisory for residents and businesses in English Turn and Lower Coast Algiers. The advisory was cancelled after the bacteriological tests confirmed that water in the area was safe to drink and could be used as normal for personal needs.

Update on Boil Water Advisory for English Turn and Lower Coast Algiers

NEW ORLEANS – The precautionary boil water advisory for English Turn and the Lower Coast section of Algiers is still in effect. Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (S&WB), in consultation with the state Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH), is currently testing water samples and will have results later today. S&WB will notify residents and businesses when the advisory is cancelled.
