Mayor Landrieu, Law Enforcement, Business and Resident Leaders to Announce Plan to Improve French Quarter Public Safety

NEW ORLEANS — Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will announce additional steps the City, hospitality industry, business community and resident groups will be taking to improve and enhance public safety and quality of life for French Quarter residents, workers, and visitors.  The announcement will include shorter-term plans for NOPD details and longer-term plans include a revenue proposal dedicated to public safety that would be paid primarily by visitors.

Prytania Street Between Milan Street and Marengo Street to be Closed to Traffic for Six Weeks

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued a traffic advisory for the upcoming road closure on Prytania Street between Milan Street and Marengo Street to install a new water line and drain line as part of the FEMA-funded Recovery Roads Program designed to restore sub-surface utilities and roadway damages related to Hurricane Katrina.

Season Eight of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball Continues This Weekend

NEW ORLEANS—On Saturday, the City of New Orleans, the New Orleans Pelicans and PlayNola will continue the eighth season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball. Midnight Basketball provides safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for young men through the game of basketball. Mentorship and educational support are also key components of this initiative.

City Launches Website to Educate Public on Smoke-Free Ordinance

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans today launched a website to educate the public on the new smoke-free ordinance scheduled to take effect on April 22, 2015. In addition to smoking restrictions that already exist under state law, the new ordinance will restrict smoking and vaping (use of electronic smoking devices) in many locations throughout the city of New Orleans, including most bars, restaurants, casinos and workplaces.

NEW ORLEANS—The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) will host family-friendly Easter egg hunts at Joe W. Brown Memorial Park on Saturday, March 21 and at Cut-Off Park on Saturday, March 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both dates.

S&P Upgrades City's Credit Rating to A-

NEW ORLEANS – Standard and Poor’s (S&P) Rating Services today upgraded its long-term and underlying rating to ‘A-‘ from ‘BBB+’ on the City of New Orleans’ general-obligation debt and issued a positive outlook for all ratings.

City Launches New Online Tool to Track Road Construction Across New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans launched a new online tool to track the progress of roadwork projects and infrastructure improvements across the city. The new website shows ongoing coordination on road construction by the City’s Department of Public Work (DPW), Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (S&WB), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Damage Reduction Project (SELA), and Regional Transit Authority (RTA).

City Reminds Residents of Precautions During Severe Weather

NEW ORLEANS – In anticipation of severe weather forecasted for the area, the City is reminding residents to monitor weather conditions and stay alert. According to the National Weather Service, up to five inches of heavy rainfall will affect the area today through Thursday, March 12, 2015.
