City to Host Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day on Saturday

NEW ORLEANS – The Department of Sanitation will host a Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day on Saturday, May 9, 2015, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Center at 2829 Elysian Fields Avenue.

French Market Corporation to Return More Than $2 Million to City

NEW ORLEANS – The French Market Corporation (FMC) announced today it will be returning a dividend in excess of $2 million this year to the City of New Orleans due to increased profits from three FMC-operated parking lots. The FMC, which is required to provide 20 percent of all net adjusted revenues to the City under a 1992 franchise lease agreement, will increase its annual contribution from about $1 million last year to about $2.4 million this year.

NORDC to Host International Jazz Day Program

NEW ORLEANS— The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) invites residents to an International Jazz Day program on Thursday, April 30 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Treme Recreation Center, 900 N. Villere Street. The event will feature performances by New Creations Brass Band, NORDC Piano Program, The Yisrael Trio, N'iya, Lafayette Elementary and Middle School Band and Choir, and the Matthew Shilling Quartet.

Mayor Landrieu to Participate in POLITICO Magazine's What Works Event in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – TOMORROW, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will participate in POLITICO Magazine’s What Works event at the New Orleans BioInnovation Center. POLITICO Magazine’s What Works is a national series of conversations about the future of cities and how cities have reimagined themselves in the face of hardship. Mayor Landrieu will appear with Rockefeller Foundation President Dr. Judith Rodin and will discuss what New Orleans has learned about reinvention and the building blocks of resiliency.

NORDC Movies in the Park Cancelled This Weekend Due to Inclement Weather

NEW ORLEANS— Due to inclement weather, the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission’s (NORDC) Movies in the Park screening of “The Princess and the Frog” originally scheduled for April 24 at Hardin Playground, 2501 New Orleans St., has been cancelled.  A new date will be announced. Movies in the Park is an outdoor movie screening program for residents across the city. Movies in the Park is free and open to the public.

City Recognizes 3 Local Businesses for Workplace Wellness Through Fit NOLA Initiative

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans Health Department (NOHD) recognized three local businesses and organizations through the Fit NOLA Business Certification program for achieving workplace wellness. There are three designation levels businesses can achieve through the program—the Platinum, Gold and Silver Awards. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana received the Gold Award, and Propeller: A Force for Social Innovation and New Orleans Public Library received the Bronze.

City Issues Reminders in Advance of 2015 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival

NEW ORLEANS – With the 2015 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival set to open at the Fair Grounds Race Course on Friday, April 24, the City is reminding the public about the procedures and requirements for selling goods and public parking in the festival’s vicinity. This year’s festival dates are Friday, April 24 to Sunday, April 26 and Thursday, April 30 to Sunday, May 3.

NORDC Invites Residents to Earth Day Activities

NEW ORLEANS— The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) invites residents to an Earth Day Resource Fair and Panel Discussion on Wednesday, April 22 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Treme Recreation Center, 900 N. Villere Street. The free event is open to the public and hosted by the Outdoor Programs division of NORDC.
