City partners with Verizon Wireless on recharging station in Venetian Isles

September 01, 2012

NEW ORLEANS, LA-- The City of New Orleans has partnered with Verizon Wireless to set up a Wireless Emergency Communication Center in Venetian Isles to provide residents who suffered major storm damage outside of levee protection with the ability to recharge their mobile devices and make free phone calls, regardless of their carrier.  The Wireless Communication Center and other new technologies facilities are part of an ongoing investment to enhance Verizon’s wireless network and increase customer service. The center will provide free phone and charging services.

In addition, the site in Venetian Isles will also have wireless capabilities for residents to apply for FEMA individual assistance.   The site, which opened this afternoon, will close at 8pm.  Hours of operation will be 8am to 8pm.

The site is at the current Engine 31 at 19808 Chef Menteur Highway.
