NEW ORLEANS, LA— Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced that the City will host a benefit concert on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the Mahalia Jackson Theater to assist those recovering from Hurricane Sandy.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in devastated areas because we understand what it’s like to suffer through catastrophes,” said Mayor Landrieu. “The Northeast was there for us following Katrina, and while many in this region are still recovering from Isaac, New Orleans wants to pay it forward to those impacted by Sandy.”
The NOLA Pay It Forward Concert will feature New Orleans musicians performing throughout the evening. Tickets, priced at $50 per person, will be available on Tuesday, November 6, at Ticketmaster by calling 1-800-745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com
Currently, the greatest need is for financial donations to aid in immediate relief efforts. Mayor Landrieu has reactivated the NOLA Pay it Forward Fund at the Greater New Orleans Foundation, and is encouraging residents to make donations for storm recovery and assistance in areas impacted by Sandy. Money raised through fund will support non-profit organizations assisting in Hurricane relief and recovery efforts.
Those interested in donating to the NOLA Pay It Forward Fund can go online to http://www.gnof.org/donors/give-now, or contact Allie Betts, manager of donor relations at the Greater New Orleans Foundation at (504) 598-4663 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
“So many people reached out to New Orleans in its time of need,” says Albert Ruesga, president and CEO of the Greater New Orleans Foundation. “Now it’s our turn to pay it forward."
