City of New Orleans expands service at recycling drop-off center

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, The City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation announced that it is offering the expansion of service to its citizens. In addition to the items regularly accepted at the Recycling Drop Off Center on the second Saturday of each month, starting on December 8, 2012, residents of Orleans Parish can drop off up to 4 televisions as well as batteries (sizes: AA, AAA, AAAA, C, and D) and light bulbs (incandescent and fluorescent). 

For the past two years, these items were only accepted when the Department of Sanitation held its annual Household Hazardous Materials Collection Day.  These items are considered hazardous to the environment and should not be placed in garbage containers for routine collection.  Household Hazardous Waste Day will not occur this weekend.

The items currently accepted at the Recycling Drop-off Center are: newspapers, junk mail, phone books, catalogs, office paper, plastics: #1, 2, 3, small metal cans, cardboard, boxboard (cereal boxes), wax board (juice/milk boxes), E-waste (computers, laptops, cell/telephones, telephone systems, cables, x-Boxes, play stations, Wii, MP3s, DVRs, DVDs, UPS, circuit boards, GPS, ink/toner cartridges, digital cameras/picture frames, fax machines, beepers, pagers, stereos, and security systems.

The Drop Off Center is open to the public this Saturday, December 8th from 8:00 am until 1:00 pm  It is located at 2829 Elysian Fields Avenue.  Only residents of Orleans Parish will be allowed to drop off items.
