City issues reminder of parking instructions and traffic restrictions in advance of events scheduled for weekend of March 15-17, 2003

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, the City of New Orleans issued parking instructions and reminders in advance of the events scheduled for the weekend of March 15-17, 2013. 

Jim Monaghan’s 31st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade
On Friday, March 15, 2013, starting at 6:30 p.m., the Jim Monaghan’s 31st Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will begin at 1100 Decatur Street. Proceeding Uptown on Decatur Street to Bienville Street, the parade will turn right onto Bienville Street towards Burgundy Street. The parade will turn right onto Burgundy Street and proceed to Conti Street where it will turn right and continue to Bourbon Street. From Bourbon Street, the parade will turn left onto Gov. Nicholls Street and proceed to Decatur Street where it will turn left and disband at 1107 Decatur Street.

2013 Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Parade
On Saturday, March 16, 2013, starting at 1:00 p.m., the 2013 Irish Channel St. Patrick’s Day Parade begins at Magazine Street at Race Street, proceeding in an Uptown direction on Magazine Street to Jackson Avenue. Turning right onto Jackson Avenue and proceeding Lake-bound on Jackson Avenue with traffic to St. Charles Avenue. The parade will turn left onto St. Charles Avenue and proceed against traffic on St. Charles Avenue to Louisiana Avenue. Turning left at Louisiana Avenue, the parade will proceed River-bound on Louisiana Avenue with traffic to Magazine Street. The parade will turn left onto Magazine Street and proceed in a Downtown-direction to Jackson Avenue where the parade will disband.

2013 Shamrock 8-K Run
On Sunday, March 17, 2013, starting at 8:30 a.m., the 2013 Shamrock 8-K Run will begin at Andrew Higgins Drive and Camp Street. The runners will depart towards Uptown on Camp Street crossing Calliope Street to Margaret Place and turn left to Prytania Street and continue Uptown on Prytania Street to Audubon Park where the race ends.

R.E.A.L. Parade
On Sunday, March 17, 2013, starting at 1:30 p.m., the R.E.A.L. Parade begins at Washington Street and LaSalle Street, proceeding on LaSalle Street/ Simon Bolivar Avenue to Martin L. King Boulevard, turning left onto Martin L. King Boulevard. The parade proceeds to South Claiborne Avenue turning left against traffic and proceeds to Washington Avenue where it will turn left and proceed to LaSalle Street where the event will disband.

2013 Downtown Irish Parade
On Sunday, March 17, 2013, starting at 6:00 p.m., the 2013 Downtown Irish Parade begins at Burgundy Street at Piety Street, proceeding on Piety Street to Royal Street. Turning right onto Royal Street and proceeding to Frenchmen Street, the parade will turn left onto Frenchmen Street proceeding towards the River and turn right onto Decatur Street/ North Peters proceeding Uptown-bound. The parade will turn right from Decatur Street onto Canal Street and proceed to Bourbon Street where it will turn right onto Bourbon Street until it reaches Orleans Street where it will disband.

Parking enforcement personnel will be monitoring for illegal parking, including blocking hydrants, driveways and sidewalks, or parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk, intersection or stop signs. Motorists are also reminded to park in the direction of travel on one-way streets, and with the right wheel to the curb on two-way streets.

In addition, RTA services, including streetcar lines and bus service may be interrupted during these events. Details on route changes are available at www.norta.com.
