Joseph M. Bartholomew, Sr. Golf Course Club House in Pontchartrain Park to be demolished

May 09, 2013

NEW ORLEANS, LA – On Friday, May 10, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., the City of New Orleans will begin demolition of the old Joseph M. Bartholomew, Sr. Golf Course Club House at 6514 Congress Drive which was damaged during Hurricane Katrina. Construction on a new $4.3 million club house, cart storage, and community classroom will begin in the next several weeks. An official ground breaking for the new club house will be on a future date.

In November 2011, the City reopened the fully renovated, $9 million Joseph M. Bartholomew, Sr. Municipal Golf Course in Pontchartrain Park. The golf course is an 18-hole, par 72-course measuring between 5,314 yards to 6,823. Originally opened as the Pontchartrain Golf Course in 1956, the Joseph M. Bartholomew, Sr. Golf Municipal Course was renovated in 1979 and renamed to honor the first African-American inducted in the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame.
