Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day cancelled this weekend

May 10, 2013

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, the City of New Orleans announced that it will not host Household Hazardous Waste Day on Saturday, May 10, 2013, due to inclement weather.  However, the regular monthly drop off will occur on that date from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 2829 Elysian Fields Avenue.

Hazardous waste can not be handled during heavy thunderstorms. The June 8th drop off will serve as a make up day for hazardous waste.

On Household Hazardous Waste Day, the Department of Sanitation will collect a number of every day household items which are no longer in use by residents and should not be thrown away with regular garbage or in curbside recycling containers. Some of the items accepted include batteries, televisions, paint, light bulbs, oil, mercury devices, aerosols, pesticides and household cleaners.

All items will be disposed or recycled in a responsible and environmentally safe manner.

For more information about the City’s recycling program, please visit http://recycle.nola.gov or call the Department of Sanitation at (504) 658-3800.
