NEW ORLEANS, LA – Tomorrow, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and City officials will break ground on the South Carrollton Avenue Streetscape and Intersection Improvements Project. The City is overseeing a series of infrastructure improvement projects on South Carrollton Avenue from Pontchartrain Expressway/Interstate-10 to Palm Street and on interior streets in the Gert Town neighborhood in association with construction of the new Costco Louisiana Warehouse which is scheduled to open this summer.
The scope of work includes replacing existing drainage, replacing sidewalks and driveway aprons, installing new Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps, new flashing beacons, a new left turn lane onto Palmetto Street, new traffic signal at Dublin Street and Dixon Street intersection and re-paving asphalt roadways. These infrastructure improvements are funded with Disaster-Community Development Block Grant (D-CDBG) funds. The combined value of the infrastructure improvements projects is approximately $5.5 million.
