NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today and Tomorrow, the City of New Orleans will hold a medical needs emergency preparedness exercise in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE), and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) across New Orleans.
The purpose of the exercise will be to assess an innovative way to use data to identify and reach medical high-risk citizens, particularly those who are oxygen and ventilator dependent, in need of assistance in the event of any emergency. The exercise is a first-in-the-nation assessment of a more active way to find and assist those most in need in the event of emergency or disaster.
New Orleans Health Commissioner Dr. Karen DeSalvo and Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response Dr. Nicole Lurie will be available to speak to the media about this exercise.
