NEW ORLEANS– Today, Mayor Landrieu and The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk hosted a major job fair, in partnership with JOB1 in the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development. Opening on Thursday, May 22, The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk, and its participating tenants received applicants for the more than 1,000 permanent part-time and full-time positions in management, sales, food service, administrative and more. More than 4,200 job seekers attended the event to mingle and interview with Riverwalk tenants including, Neiman Marcus Last Call Studio, Coach and Forever 21. In total, The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk plans to hire for 1,600 permanent positions.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu joined leaders from The Howard Hughes Corporation, JOB1 and participating retailers at the event. In addition to Riverwalk’s event, another job fair was hosted across the city to staff the New Orleans East Hospital. That project is expected to create 120 new jobs.
“Today is a celebration of progress and continued economic development across New Orleans,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “Job creation has been a priority of this administration since day one and with each new project we are delivering on our promises to connect our residents with real opportunities. The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk will not only restore one of our most treasured assets, it will expand the options for both shopping and employment for residents and visitors. .”
“The creation of approximately 1,600 in New Orleans is one of the most exciting components of the transformation of Riverwalk,” said Mark Bulmash, senior vice president development at The Howard Hughes Corporation. “The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk will support the local economy not only through offering amazing shopping, dining and entertainment, but also through job creation. I’m pleased to say that, in addition to these permanent positions, The Howard Hughes Corporation hired approximately 700 construction positions for the project’s exciting and extensive redevelopment.”
The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk partnered with JOB1 in the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development for the job fair. The goal of JOB1 Business and Career Solutions is to provide employers with a skilled workforce, and a link between job seekers and employment opportunities that lead to self-sufficiency.
“New Orleans has a skilled workforce that is hungry for opportunity and we are thrilled to see so many employers taking notice,” said Nadiyah Coleman, director of workforce development. “Businesses across the world are investing in New Orleans and we are working every day to make sure our residents are prepared for the amazing opportunities that are coming our way.”
The Howard Hughes Corporation (NYSE: HHC) announced its multimillion dollar transformation of Riverwalk into The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk in July 2012. Along with being the nation’s first outlet center located in a downtown setting, the project will be the first location in New Orleans, Louisiana and the Gulf region for many of the Riverwalk’s retailers including Neiman Marcus Last Call Studio, Coach Men’s Factory Store, Tommy Bahama, Hartstrings Kids Apparel Center, U.S. Polo Assn. Outlet, It’Sugar, Sunglass Warehouse, Smoothie King and New Balance Factory Store. A total of 75 national and local retailers and restaurants will be in the revamped Riverfront property. 45 of Riverwalk’s incoming tenants participated in today’s event.
