NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued the following statement on President Barack Obama’s announcement that current HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan will become the next director of the White House Office of Management and Budget and San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro will be nominated as the next HUD secretary.
"Secretary Donovan has been an unbelievable partner for New Orleans during his service at HUD. During his tenure, New Orleans received $35 million to redevelop the Iberville public housing project through the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative and has jump started a major workforce initiative through the the Livable Claiborne Communities grant. Through his leadership, we are transforming lives and revitalizing neighborhoods across our city. I am sure he will continue this exceptional dedication and service in the Obama Administration as the next Director of the Office of Management and Budget.”
Landrieu added, “I have known San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro for years through our service together with the U.S. Conference of Mayors. As mayor of one of the largest cities in the country, he is uniquely qualified to serve as the next Secretary for Housing and Urban Development. I look forward to working with him and our federal partners in the Obama Administration as we continue to build a better, stronger New Orleans.”
