NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, the City of New Orleans announced that the Press Secretary for the Mayor’s Office of Communications has been immediately assigned to the New Orleans Police Department to manage the Public Information Office. Starting today, Tyler Gamble will serve as the interim Communications Director, managing a three-person staff and serving as the NOPD spokesperson.
“When we took office in 2010, we committed to improve the accountability and transparency of every city agency,” said Mayor Landrieu. “My expectation is that the NOPD’s Public Information Office is professional, responsive and proactive in delivering accurate information”
In light of this transition, the New Orleans Police Department has opted to withdraw the July 2014 Request for Proposals for a Communications Director. The NOPD will continue to assess the need for additional communication services on an as needed basis.
Upon Gamble’s transition, Communications Director Garnesha Crawford will serve as the primary spokesperson for Mayor Landrieu and will continue to manage media relations on behalf of the City.
