Mayor Landrieu Welcomes Viking Cruises to New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — Today, Governor Bobby Jindal and Viking Cruises Chairman Torstein Hagen selected New Orleans as the homeport for the company’s first North American river cruise itineraries. The Mississippi River cruises will operate from docking facilities near the French Quarter in New Orleans. Viking’s new service will create 416 new direct jobs for Louisiana-based operations and vessel crews, with an average salary of $40,000, plus benefits.

City to Auction Adjudicated Properties This Summer

NEW ORLEANS – In March 2015, the City of New Orleans will begin taking the necesssary steps to sell adjudicated properties across the city through a new online auction process. The sale will provide winning bidders with full ownership of each property and with guaranteed title insurance.

Mayor Calls 2015 Mardi Gras Season a Success

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Mitch Landrieu today called the 2015 Mardi Gras season a “resounding success” and thanked the NOPD, public employees, Carnival krewes and the people of New Orleans for helping make it all possible. “Mardi Gras is the single event that transmits the authenticity of New Orleans to the world,” said Mayor Landrieu.

City Activates Freeze Plan for Homeless

NEW ORLEANS — The City is activating its Citywide Freeze Plan (CFP) overnight on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, as the National Weather Service forecasts the temperature or wind chill to fall below the plan’s activation threshold of 35 degrees. The City's freeze plan will be in effect to provide temporary shelter for homeless residents.

City Hall to Close Early Today

NEW ORLEANS -- The City of New Orleans announced that City Hall will close to the public at 3 p.m. today, Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, to minimize traffic disruptions in light of the earlier start times for this evening's Mardi Gras parades.

Changes to Mardi Gras Parade Schedule for Monday, Feb. 16

NEW ORLEANS—The City of New Orleans announced today that Mardi Gras parades scheduled for Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, will begin earlier in anticipation of bad weather that evening. The Krewe of Proteus will begin at 4 p.m. instead of 5:15 p.m., and the Krewe of Orpheus will begin at 4:45 p.m. instead of 6 p.m.

City Hall Closed Tuesday for Mardi Gras Holiday

NEW ORLEANS -- The City of New Orleans announced today that City Hall will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015, in observance of the Mardi Gras holiday. Emergency personnel will operate as normal and will not be affected by this closure. City Hall will resume normal business hours on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015.
