NEW ORLEANS— Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, the City of New Orleans Health Department and the Metropolitan Human Services District (MHSD) announced efforts to raise awareness of mental health resources in advance of the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Landrieu, Harrison and Advocates Announce Reforms to Sexual Assault Response

NEW ORLEANS— Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison, and advocates announced systemic reforms underway that are necessary to thoroughly investigate sexual assault and to respect and protect sexual assault survivors. Among the reforms, the Sex Crimes Unit has moved to the New Orleans Family Justice Center so that survivors can meet with detectives and connect to support services at the same time.

City Issues Traffic Advisory for Marengo Street Between Pitt and Prytania Streets

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued a traffic advisory for the upcoming road closure on Marengo Street between Pitt and Prytania streets to repair portions of the roadway as part of the FEMA-funded Recovery Roads Program designed to restore Hurricane Katrina related sub-surface utilities and roadway damages.

Heat Advisory for Saturday, Aug. 8-Sunday, Aug.9

NEW ORLEANS—The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory in the New Orleans area from Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015 at 10 a.m. until Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015 at 7 p.m. The weather forecast indicates that the heat index in New Orleans is expected to exceed 105 degrees, and these hot temperatures can become life-threatening if the proper precautions are not taken.

NORDC to Host Flag Football Championship Games

NEW ORLEANS— The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) will hold baseball and softball championship games for the spring 2015 season on Saturday, Aug. 8. The season started on May 4 with 14 flag football teams serving 211 youth and teens from NORDC playgrounds across the city.

City Sells All 170 Properties in August Adjudicated Property Auction

NEW ORLEANS – On Aug. 5, the second in a series of innovative online monthly auctions for adjudicated properties brought in over $4 million after 417 people placed more than 14,600 bids to buy all 170 properties that were for sale.
