City Releases Office of Police Secondary Employment Annual Report

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans released the Office of Police Secondary Employment’s Annual Report covering Sept. 2014 through Aug. 2015. This annual report satisfies specific requirements of the New Orleans Police Department’s federal consent decree and offers a transparent overview of how the reforms to the police secondary employment system are progressing.

City to Host Free Paper Shredding Event

NEW ORLEANS – On Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, the Department of Sanitation will host another free paper shredding event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Center located at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave. During “Shred Day,” residents can bring up to 50 pounds of personal or sensitive documents to be shredded safely and securely by Iron Mountain, a storage and information management company.  Iron Mountain is providing free shredding to the public as a community service.

NORDC 2015 Cheerleading Competition and Football Championship Games to be held This Weekend

NEW ORLEANS– The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) 2015 Football and Cheerleading seasons will culminate in a cheerleading competition and  football championship games. In addition, a parade featuring NORDC football players and cheerleaders will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015. All events are free and open to the public.

City Issues Traffic Advisory for Greater New Orleans Annual Veterans Day Parade

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued a traffic advisory in advance of the Greater New Orleans Annual Veterans Day Parade on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015. The public is encouraged to be patient and to prepare for heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the specific areas by making transportation arrangements accordingly.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu Recognized by Governing Magazine as a 2015 Public Official of the Year

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu was recognized by GOVERNING magazine as a 2015 Public Official of the Year. Mayor Landrieu was among nine state and local government officials honored for looking at challenges in their communities and taking decisive action. Every year since 1994, GOVERNING has honored individual state and local government officials for outstanding accomplishment by naming them Public Officials of the Year.

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued the following statement upon the passing of Allen Toussaint. Toussaint was a famed New Orleans musician and songwriter who shared New Orleans-style rhythm and blues around the world.

New Orleans Traffic Court to Reopen to Public Tomorrow

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Traffic Court, located at 727 South Broad Street, will reopen to the public tomorrow, Nov. 10, 2015. Traffic Court closed to the public Monday afternoon because of an electrical power outage that has been resolved.

City Breaks Ground on New Rosenwald Pool and Pool House in the B.W. Cooper Neighborhood

NEW ORLEANS –  Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, City officials and FEMA broke ground on the new $1.8 million Rosenwald Pool and Pool House at 1120 South Broad Street in the B.W. Cooper neighborhood. The former pool and pool house was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The new Rosenwald Pool and Pool House will be open in time for next summer’s New Orleans Recreation Development Commission swim season. Last month, the City celebrated the opening of the new $8.5 million Rosenwald Center.

New Orleans Traffic Court Closed Today Due to Power Outage

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Traffic Court, located at 727 South Broad Street, has closed to public today, Nov. 9, 2015, because of an electrical power outage. Entergy is aware of the outage and working to restore power as soon as possible.
