Mayor Landrieu Announces Eleventh Season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball

NEW ORLEANS —Mayor Mitch Landrieu, along with the New Orleans Pelicans, RPM Pizza, Nike and PlayNOLA, today announced the start of the eleventh season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball, a program that  focuses on providing safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for males over 16 years old through basketball, mentorship and support.

Mayor Landrieu Announces Season Eleven of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball

NEW ORLEANS —Tomorrow, Mayor Mitch Landrieu alongside the New Orleans Pelicans, RPM Pizza, Nike and PlayNOLA will announce Season 11 of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball, which provides safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for young men through mentorship, support and basketball.This free eight-week season willtip-off at the newly renovated Rosenwald Recreation Center on Saturday, Feb. 27.

Fifty NORDC Teens Traveled to Washington, D.C. for College Tour

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission’s (NORDC) Teen Council recently sent 50 members to Washington, D.C. to visit six different universities through its Chevron Future Leaders Program. During the trip, the teens visited  Georgetown University, George Washington University, Howard University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland and the Cocoran College of Art and Design.

Fix My Streets Financing Working Group to Hold Third Public Meeting

NEW ORLEANS — On Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016, the Fix My Streets Financing Working Group will hold its third public meeting to continue the process of finding solutions to address New Orleans’ long-term infrastructure needs. Established by Executive Order by Mayor Landrieu, the Fix My Streets Financing Working Group has been charged with developing recommendations about how the City can pay for interior street repairs.

City Provides Severe Weather Updates

NEW ORLEANS –According to the National Weather Service, severe weather, including thunderstorms and heavy wind gusts, is expected to develop in New Orleans this afternoon and last through the evening.  Public safety is our top priority, so residents are advised to remain indoors during heavy rainfall and heavy winds unless an emergency makes it absolutely necessary to be on the road.

City Announces Improvements to Welcome More Limited-English Speakers to the City

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City announced a series of improvements to the lobby of City Hall to welcome and better serve all of its residents. A large multilingual welcome sign, international flags and an electronic directory with offices listed in English, Spanish and Vietnamese were installed earlier this year.

City Hall, NORDC Facilities to Close at 1 p.m. in Anticipation of Severe Weather

NEW ORLEANS – In anticipation of severe weather forecasted throughout the area, City Hall and all New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) facilities will close at 1 p.m. today.  According to the National Weather Service, severe weather, including thunderstorms and heavy wind gusts, is expected to develop in New Orleans this afternoon and last through the evening.  P

City Provides Update on Ridesharing Operations Since Introduction to New Orleans Market in Spring 2015

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans provided an update to the New Orleans City Council Transportation and Airport Committee on ridesharing operations and their impact on the taxicab industry since being introduced to the New Orleans market last year. In April 2015, Mayor Mitch Landrieu signed an ordinance permitting ridesharing that creates definitions and regulations for the operations of Transportation Network Companies (TNC) and TNC vehicles.

City of New Orleans Announces Accolades for Updated Healthy Vending, Food Service Policy

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans announced a more progressive approach to improving the workplace environment through vending and food services guidelines designed to drive healthier eating habits. These guidelines will provide stronger nutritional standards for vending machines on City properties, thus giving City employees and residents access to healthier food options.

Mayor Landrieu to Welcome Ambassador of France Gerard Araud to New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu will welcome the Ambassador of France in the U.S., Gérard Araud, during his first official visit to New Orleans. Ambassador Araud’s visit will underscore the rising success of French immersion programs throughout the state, as well as the vibrant growth of commercial trade and economic partnerships between France and Louisiana.
