City Breaks Ground on New Rosenwald Pool and Pool House in the B.W. Cooper Neighborhood

NEW ORLEANS –  Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu, City officials and FEMA broke ground on the new $1.8 million Rosenwald Pool and Pool House at 1120 South Broad Street in the B.W. Cooper neighborhood. The former pool and pool house was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The new Rosenwald Pool and Pool House will be open in time for next summer’s New Orleans Recreation Development Commission swim season. Last month, the City celebrated the opening of the new $8.5 million Rosenwald Center.

New Orleans Traffic Court Closed Today Due to Power Outage

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Traffic Court, located at 727 South Broad Street, has closed to public today, Nov. 9, 2015, because of an electrical power outage. Entergy is aware of the outage and working to restore power as soon as possible.

Season Ten of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball Continues

NEW ORLEANS —On Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, the City of New Orleans alongside the New Orleans Pelicans, Domino’s Pizza and PlayNola will continue the tenth season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball, which provides safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for young men through the game of basketball. Mentorship and educational support are also key components of this initiative.

City Celebrates Opening of Lafitte Greenway Bicycle and Pedestrian Path

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu joined City Councilmembers, City Officials, and community stakeholders to celebrate the opening of the $9.1 million Lafitte Greenway Bicycle and Pedestrian Path. Stretching 2.6 miles, the Lafitte Greenway Bicycle and Pedestrian Path is a multi-use trail and linear park connecting six historic neighborhoods from the French Quarter to Bayou St. John and Mid-City.

The Welcome Table New Orleans is a citywide initiative that focuses on race, reconciliation and community building.

City Wins Appeal of FEMA Flood Maps for Algiers Point Area

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City announced that FEMA ruled in favor of the City’s appeal of the 2014 Revised Preliminary Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps, which incorrectly placed Algiers Point area within a flood hazard area and that significant improvements completed by the City and Sewerage and Water Board since the revised maps were developed were not taken into account. The revision to the flood map will help make flood insurance more affordable for area residents.

City Celebrates Completion of Michoud Front Door Infrastructure Improvement Project

NEW ORLEANS—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu joined City officials and business leaders to celebrate the completion of the $6.2 million Michoud Front Door Infrastructure Improvement Project. The project included sustainable, environmentally integrated storm water management improvements which were designed to help create additional and continued private investment in one of the city’s key recovery areas in the Michoud neighborhood.

Monthly Online Auction for Adjudicated Properties on Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans will host its fifth in a series of online monthly auctions for adjudicated properties on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., subject to a rolling close in the case of last-minute competitive bidding. The City is scheduled to sell 49 properties throughout the community, where winning bidders will receive full ownership and title insurance for each property.

City Health Department Announces Start of Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment Period

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Today, the City of New Orleans Health Department and its partners announced that the open enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act Health Insurance Marketplace (Marketplace) begins on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015. Residents and small businesses are encouraged to visit the Marketplace at healthcare.gov   to directly compare and purchase private health insurance options, often for lower costs.
