NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu issued the following statement upon the passing of Chef Paul Prudomme. Prudomme was prominent New Orleans chef who popularized authentic Creole and Cajun cuisine and was an international ambassador of Louisiana’s unique culture.

Mayor, Chief Harrison Attend Justice Department's Summit on Violent Crime

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Superintendent Michael Harrison are attending the Summit on Violent Crime in Washington, D.C., hosted by Attorney General Loretta Lynch. The summit is bringing together law enforcement and federal, state and local government leaders from across the country to discuss effective violence reduction strategies. Landrieu and Harrison are attending at the invitation of the Attorney General.

Mayor Landrieu Calls on Community to Participate in 'NOLA FOR LIFE' Mentoring Initiative

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu called on New Orleans residents to participate in the NOLA FOR LIFE Mentoring Initiative. As a component of NOLA FOR LIFE’s Invest in Prevention pillar, the effort provides guidance and support to 15- to 18-year-old males in New Orleans who are most at risk of becoming involved in violence.

Orleans Criminal Justice Leaders Working Together to Right Size Jail Population

NEW ORLEANS –Today, representatives of the Mayor’s Office, Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office and other local criminal justice agencies will travel to Chicago as part of an ongoing strategic planning process for the MacArthur Foundation’s Safety and Justice Challenge, an initiative to reduce over-incarceration in local jails by changing the way Americans think about and use jails.

Monthly Online Auction for Adjudicated Properties on Wednesday

NEW ORLEANS  – The City of New Orleans will host its fourth in a series of online monthly auctions for adjudicated properties on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., subject to a rolling close in the case of last-minute competitive bidding. The City is scheduled to sell about 100 properties throughout the community, where winning bidders will receive full ownership and title insurance for each property.

City of New Orleans Celebrates First Anniversary of Joseph M. Bartholomew Sr. Club House

NEW ORLEANS  – Tomorrow, the City of New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways will  celebrate the first anniversary of the $4.6 million Joseph M. Bartholomew Sr. Club House in Pontchartrain Park. The 8,500-square-foot Club House includes communal dining and concession areas, a pro-shop, a computer classroom, community meeting space and administrative offices. The facility also includes upgraded driving range lighting, a new cart storage warehouse, and restroom facilities.

City Takes Another Step Toward Replacing Fire Truck Fleet

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans and the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) took the another step toward replacing its fleet of fire trucks after the City allocated funds to do so and as final lease payments are made on the current fleet. The NOFD issued an invitation to bid for the purchase of new fire trucksallowing the NOFD to begin a replacement plan for its entire fleet of fire apparatus over the next few years.
