NEW ORLEANS –Today, the City of New Orleans issued a traffic advisory for the area around the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Starting on Fri., July 24, 2015 at 7:00 a.m., residents should expect heavy traffic around the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in both the river-bound and lake-bound lanes of Poydras Street from Loyola Ave. to Claiborne Ave. as residents and visitors participate in worship services for the 2015 Regional Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

NEW ORLEANS—The City of New Orleans Health Department has issued a notice of noise variance to New Orleans residents in the Lower Garden District neighborhood for Fri., July 24, 2015 through Sat., July 25, 2015. A construction company will conduct outdoor work, which includes pouring concrete that will exceed the ambient noise levels beginning at 2:00 a.m. Fri., July 24, 2015, and ending at noon on Sat., July 25, 2015, for the Kingsley House Taylor Campus project at 1572 Constance Street.

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Economy issued filming notices to residents in New Orleans East. Beginning on Thurs., July 23, 2015 until Fri., July 31, 2015, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., a production company will film scenes in the parking lot of the former Six Flags Theme Park. The sequence being filmed involves special effects containing simulated explosions.

NEW ORLEANS—The National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory in the New Orleans area for Sun., July 19 and Mon., July 20, 2015. The weather forecast indicates that the heat index in New Orleans is expected to exceed 105 degrees, and these hot temperatures can become life-threatening if the proper precautions are not taken.

NEW ORLEANS – Mayor Mitch Landrieu, at the request of His Holiness Pope Francis, will join a select group of mayors, local governors and representatives of the United Nations for a historic two-day summit at the Vatican. The international leaders will come together to discuss solutions to global issues such as climate change, human trafficking and sustainable development.

NEW ORLEANS—On Sat., July 18, City of New Orleans officials alongside NOLA FOR LIFE and CeaseFire partners, faith-and community-based organizations, non-profits, residents, local businesses and schools will host the second annual CeaseFire Peace Festival in Central City. Hosted by DJ Wild Wayne, the festival is a celebration of the communities and organizations who are working collaboratively to create peace and safety in our communities.

NEW ORLEANS—Mayor Mitch Landrieu, along with the New Orleans Pelicans and PlayNOLA, today announced the ninth season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball, a program that focuses on providing safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for males over 16 years old through basketball, mentorship and support. The free eight week season will kick off at Andrew P. Sanchez Multi-Service Center on Sat., July 18 with registration beginning at 7 p.m. and the tournament tip off at 8 p.m.
