NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans announced the transition of Lt. Col. Jerry Sneed USMC (Ret.) from his role as Deputy Mayor of Public Safety and Director of the City of New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (NOHSEP) to advisor for the Orleans Parish Communications District (OPCD).

Saturday is Final Night for NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball Season Eight

NEW ORLEANS— On Saturday, the City of New Orleans, the New Orleans Pelicans and PlayNola will close the eighth season of NOLA FOR LIFE Midnight Basketball. The team who wins the most tournaments of the season will win a $1,000 grand prize. Midnight Basketball provides safe recreational opportunities in crime hot spots for young men through the game of basketball. Mentorship and educational support are also key components of this initiative.

NORDC Movies in the Park Cancelled This Weekend Due to Inclement Weather

NEW ORLEANS— Due to inclement weather, the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission’s (NORDC) Movies in the Park screening of “The Lego Movie,” originally scheduled for tonight at A.L. Davis Playground at 2600 LaSalle St., has been cancelled.  A new date will be announced at a later time.

New Orleans & Oakland Mayors Wager on Pelicans & Warriors Playoff Games

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu of New Orleans, La., and Mayor Libby Schaaf of Oakland, Calif., entered into a friendly wager on the NBA playoff series between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Golden State Warriors. The wager promises a package of hometown products to the city with the winning basketball team.

Noise Variance Notice for the Iberville Neighborhood

NEW ORLEANS— The City of New Orleans Health Department has issued a notice of noise variance to New Orleans residents in the Iberville neighborhood for Friday, April 17, 2015. A construction company will conduct outdoor work, which includes pouring concrete that will exceed the ambient noise levels beginning at 5:00 a.m. at 300 Treme Street. Residents are advised to be patient and expect to hear loud noises outside of the normal hours outlined in the City’s noise ordinance

NORDC Hiring Over 100 Summer Lifeguards

NEW ORLEANS— The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) is hiring over 100 lifeguards for the summer 2015 pool season.  NORDC lifeguards are required to be at least 16 years old. 

The base wage is $11.38 per hour for either a 20- or 30-hour work week. Lifeguards are on duty during pool hours, which include mornings, mid-day, evenings, weekends and holidays.

New Orleans' 2015 County Health Ranking Improves For Third Consecutive Year

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Health Department (NOHD) announced today that for third consecutive year New Orleans’ ranking has improved in the County Health Rankings—a report released by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute that measures vital health factors that affect quality of life for nearly every county in the United States. New Orleans ranked 42nd out of 64 Louisiana parishes—up from 60th three years ago.
