Chiquita Announces Company will Return Its Shipping Operations to Port of New Orleans After Four-Decade Hiatus

NEW ORLEANS,LA — Today, Mayor Landrieu  joined Gov. Bobby Jindal and Chiquita Brands International Inc. Senior Vice President Mario Pacheco to announce the company will relocate its shipping operations from the Port of Gulfport in Mississippi to the Port of New Orleans. Chiquita plans to ship 60,000 to 78,000 twenty-foot-equivalent units, or TEUs, per year at the Port of New Orleans, representing a roughly 15 percent increase in current container volumes there.

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced plans for the seventh NOLA FOR LIFE Day on Saturday, June 7, 2014, and invited all residents to join in on the community revitalization effort. Activities will take place from in and around Stallings Gentilly Playground at 1600 Gentilly Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

City of New Orleans to Hold Abandoned Vehicle Auction

NEW ORLEANS, LA – On Thursday, May 15, 2014, the City of New Orleans Department of Public Works will hold a third abandoned vehicle auction. The auction, located at Almonaster Auto Pound, 10200 Almonaster Avenue, will begin at 9:00 a.m. Vehicle preview day and buyer registration is Wednesday, May 14, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. No one will be admitted after 3:30 p.m. for security reasons.

NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Ronal Serpas opened registration for the second local NOPD recruitment event in 2014. On Saturday, June 7, 2014, individuals who are actively seeking employment within the police department will have the opportunity to learn about and start the application process onsite; network and hear the stories of current officers and interface with NOPD leadership from specialized units.
