Congratulations to the 8th District Police Community Advisory Board who successfully submitted a recommendation to District Commander Jeffrey H. Walls and received a favorable response. Discussion and deliberations surrounding bike safety were vetted through several community meetings and a final recommendation to increase awareness through policing was made to the District Commander.

One of the eight Police Community Advisory Boards (PCABs) of its kind across the city, the 8th District PCAB represents residents in the French Quarter, Tremé, Central Business District, and Marigny communities. The eight PCABs each represent one of the eight police districts and are made up of resident volunteers who serve a two-year term during which they address crime and quality of life issues. The PCAB program was established to encourage police and community collaboration by providing a framework for community members to give feedback and recommendations to each police district.

Congratulations to all of the new PCAB members who applied during open enrollment in 2014. New members will be inducted into the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 8th District PCABs. A special thanks to those PCABs who reviewed applications and submitted their nominations to their District Commander, Excellent Job! For more information about the program and to apply to serve, visit the PCAB webpage.

The Neighborhood Engagement Office extends many accolades to the 8th District PCAB for great service to their community. They are the first group to accomplish the mission of community policing by making successful recommendations to their District Commander. Visit the 8th District PCAB’s external website to learn more about their recommendations and their upcoming meeting dates.
