Early Morning Two-Alarm Fire at 1554 Lafreniere St.

November 04, 2013

New Orleans, LA. – Monday, November 04, 2013 at 3:27 a.m. the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) was dispatched from a 911 call reporting a fire near or under I-610 between Paris Ave. and St. Bernard Ave.  The first NOFD company arrived on the scene of 1554 Lafreniere St. at 3:32 a.m., finding fire already coming through the roof.  Firefighters forced entry into the building, which houses a bar that was closed at the time.  Firefighters also woke and evacuated residents of a neighboring home as a precaution to possible extension of the fire.  Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the building of origin, protecting the occupied dwelling and an unoccupied abandoned dwelling in the rear of the fire building.  Thirteen NOFD units carrying forty-two suppression personnel were used to bring this incident under control at 4:03 a.m.  There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
