Fluid Spill at the Corner of Canal St. and Carrollton Ave.

June 17, 2014

The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) is on the scene of a Level 1 Hazardous Materials incident at the corner of Canal St. and Carrollton Ave.  A Richard’s Disposal garbage truck has leaked approximately 50-60 gallons of hydraulic fluid spanning a four block stretch of lake-bound Canal St., from Carrollton Ave. to N. Solomon St.  Currently NOFD Haz-Mat and suppression personnel, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, Department of Public Works, New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board, New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) and a clean-up crew from Richard’s Disposal are all on the scene to mitigate this incident as soon as possible.  Lake-bound Canal St., between Carrollton Ave. and N. Solomon St. will remain closed until the clean-up effort is deemed sufficient and cleared by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.  Drivers should expect delays in and around this area of Canal Street during the clean-up effort.  Please use alternative routes until 8pm.
