NEW ORLEANS, LA—Today, the NOPD announced that Officer Christopher Carter has been placed on emergency suspension without pay based on a Public Integrity Bureau (PIB) investigation into allegations of domestic abuse.

PIB launched an investigation on January 27, 2014 after receiving a complaint. As a result of the investigation, the NOPD placed Carter on administrative reassignment on May 25, 2014.

In conjunction with the PIB investigation, today the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office filed a Bill of Information on Carter for Criminal Charges of R.S. 14:35.3 (L) relative to Domestic Abuse Battery involving Strangulation and R.S. 14: 35.3 relative to Domestic Abuse Battery. Based on this action, the NOPD placed Carter on emergency suspension without pay.

The PIB investigation is on-going.

Carter is a 10-year veteran of the NOPD and was most recently assigned to the Special Operation Division Tactical Unit.
