This afternoon members of the New Orleans Police Department’s Fatality Unit are investigating an incident that left a 52-year-old New Orleans man dead. The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of family members. The incident occurred at approximately 1:40 P.M., at the intersection of Saint Claude Avenue and Elysian Fields Avenue.
A 52-year-old male bicyclist was traveling Westbound on Saint Claude Avenue when he collided with an 18 wheeler, driven by a 51-year-old man from Violet, traveling Westbound on Saint Claude Avenue that turned Northbound onto Elysian Fields Avenue.
The 52-year-old bicyclist died on the scene.
No citations were issued. Blood and alcohol tests are pending and the Orleans Parish Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
