(February 13, 2014) – Homicide Detectives are investigating a murder/suicide involving an unidentified male and female. The victims were discovered inside of a residence in the 2800 block of Fortin Street, just after 8pm. The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of family members.
Members of the NOPD’s Special Operation Division and Fifth District detectives conducted a wellbeing check for the occupant of the residence. Once inside officers discovered the unresponsive victims on the floor of a bedroom. The female victim was possibly shot once while the male apparently died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the body. Both were pronounced dead on the scene.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an official autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Homicide Detective Barret Morton is in charge of this investigation.
