Beefed Up Patrols in the CBD Lands Drug Dealer in Jail

March 17, 2014

(March 17, 2014)-  Yesterday, Eighth District Officers arrested 29-year-old Eric Carter for dealing large amounts of narcotics near the intersection of Elk Place and Canal Street.

Yesterday around 6:30pm, Officers Robert Fuller and Daniel Oquendo were on proactive patrol in the CBD when they observed Eric Carter engaging in what appeared to be a hand to hand drug transaction. As officers attempted to speak with Carter he immediately became defensive and a brief struggle ensued. During the struggle Carter was attempting to reach into his waistband which caused Officer Fuller to grab the suspect’s arm for safety.  Carter was immediately taken into custody without any further incident. During the arrest process officers discovered Carter was in possession of 155 bags of Marijuana, 43 pieces of (rock) Crack Cocaine, 21 foils of Heroin and $495 in cash.

In recent weeks Eighth District Commander Jeffrey Walls has increased Police visibility in the CBD in response to citizens’ concerns in the area.

Carter was booked into Central Lockup and charged with Possession with the Intent to Distribute Heroin, Crack and Marijuana. He also had an outstanding warrant for drugs from Jefferson Parish. Carter has previous drug and resisting arrest.
