UPDATE: Howard Vidrine w/m 3-24-80 was arrested for the incident and was booked with Negligent Homicide, Negligent Injury, Driving on a Suspended Driver’s License and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle. (April 11, 2014) New Orleans police are investigating a fatality that left a 36-year-old man dead and sends a 40-year-old man to the hospital. The accident occurred around 10:15am on the eastbound side of US highway 90(Chef Menteur Highway).
The driver of a white Chevy Cruze was travelling in the right lane eastbound on Chef Menteur when for reasons unknown, he rear ended the two cyclists who were also travelling eastbound. One cyclist was pronounced dead on the scene while the other cyclist was transported to the hospital in serious condition.
This investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.
Fatality Investigator Kevin Thompson is in charge of the investigation.
All portions of Chef Menteur Highway have since been reopened.
