Police are investigating a Homicide of an unidentified man who was fatally wounded after brandishing a handgun and robbing a female. The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 A.M., in the 2600 block of Dreux Street.
Three females had a flat tire and called a friend to assist. The friend arrived and began changing the tire and a short while later a possible Chrysler drove up. An armed unknown male exited the vehicle and pointed the gun at one of the females and demanded her purse at which time she complied. At that time, the male changing the tire identified himself as a law enforcement officer and drew his firearm at which time there was an exchange of gunfire and the suspect was shot multiple times to the body. The driver of the Chrysler fled the scene. The suspect was transported to the hospital where he later died. No one else was injured in the robbery.
Detectives recovered the suspect’s handgun from the scene and are in the process of determining the origin of the weapon.
The adult male and women were interviewed and released.
The investigation is ongoing and at this time detectives are classifying the incident as justifiable and the District Attorney Office will review the investigation.
