About FIT NOLA Parks

The Fit NOLA Parks program provides free fitness activities for people of all ages and skill levels at NORDC playgrounds led by Fit NOLA Parks instructors. The locations are Norwood Thompson, Taylor, St. Roch, Behrman, Conrad and Stallings Gentilly.  The booster clubs at each location sell healthy food options at the concession stands.

The Fit NOLA Parks initiative, a partnership between the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC), the Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI) and the City of New Orleans Health Department seeks to increase use of community parks and access to healthy foods in underserved neighborhoods. Additional Fit NOLA Parks partners include the New Orleans Recreation Development Foundation, Market Umbrella, Tulane Prevention Research Center, Daughters of Charity Services of New Orleans, Norwood Thompson Booster Club, Taylor Booster Club, St. Roch Booster Club, and New Orleans Police Department. The project is funded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation and matching funds from Chevron.

Fit NOLA Parks is part of Fit NOLA, the City of New Orleans Health Department’s initiative to shape a shared vision addressing obesity, a major public health challenge. Fit NOLA is working to make New Orleans one of the nation’s top ten fittest cities by 2018 through activities to increase awareness, build capacity, and set standards to promote healthy lifestyles.  Learn more at www.nola.gov/health external link or by following Fit NOLA on Twitter: @FitNOLA external link.
