Young Leadership Council, NORDC and the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness & Sports Held First Annual Louisiana Governor’s Games Soccer Tournament
Saturday, May 25, 2013 at City Park Festival Fields
The Young Leadership Council is partnering with the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission and the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, to hold the First Annual Louisiana Governor’s Games Soccer Tournament.
The Louisiana Governor’s Games are the state’s premier amateur sporting event, where sports enthusiasts from across the state participate in a variety of athletic competitions. Young Leadership Council, through its citywide youth soccer league in partnership with NORDC, YLC Kicks, is partnering with the Governor’s Council and Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine to host the first soccer tournament in the game’s history. The tournament will feature 12 youth soccer teams from 4 parishes in the region.
“The growth of YLC Kicks in such a short amount of time has been incredible,” said Richard Pavlick, YLC President. “We’re thrilled to be working with NORDC, the Governor’s Council, and Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine, and we’re very proud of all the YLC volunteers who have made this partnership possible. We hope this helps us continue to grow the sport of soccer in New Orleans and the region.”
YLC Kicks provides accessible soccer programming throughout New Orleans. The project currently operates in 15 NORDC parks in Orleans Parish, reaching more than 250 children each week. YLC Kicks is one of four youth-focused projects managed by Young Leadership Council volunteers. The civic engagement organization also operates the RECreate basketball program in Central City, the College Admissions Project, which provides public high school students with assistance on college applications, and Power Ties, a mentoring program for eighth grade students.
