In order to ensure public safety through compliance with the International Construction Code (ICC) as adopted by the City of New Orleans as well as all other related state and parish regulations, electricians performing work within the City of New Orleans are required to obtain and renew annually an Electrical License from the City.

In order to ensure public safety through compliance with the International Construction Code (ICC) as adopted by the City of New Orleans as well as all other related state and parish regulations, electricians performing work within the City of New Orleans are required to obtain and renew annually an Electrical License from the City. Electricians with ICC certifications who have passed LA State Licensing Board Examination can apply as Class "A" Electrical Contractors' ($125.00).

Duration: Valid for one year

Fees

  • Class A Electrical Contractor $125.00 annual (delinquent fee of $10.00 per month/ 1st business day after birthday. Licenses that are delinquent for over a year will have to retest with ICC in order to obtain another Class A license.)
  • Class A Electrical Contractor (inactive) $30.00 annual (delinquent fee of $10.00 per month/considered to be delinquint 1st business day after birthday)

Required documents/steps

This license may be obtained by either of the two ways: {A} National Testing- International Code Council (1-877-783-3926) – or – {B} State Testing-- Louisiana State Licensing Board of Contractors (2525 Quail Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70808 (1-225-785-2301). You must submit a passing letter from ICC or if you passed the state test submit a copy of the State License (State Wide) and qualifying party letter and all requirements.

  • Complete the respective Electrical License Application(New or Renewal)
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Present two current passport size photos.
  • Must submit current proof of insurance, General Liability not less than $500,000 and Workers Compensation no less than the state requirement. Note: In a situation where applicant claims to have no employees, he must present an affidavit notarized stating so.
  • Submit “Louisiana General Sales Tax number” card or letter from the Department of Revenue and Taxation. Visit www.revenue.louisiana.gov (LDR).
  • Submit proof of Occupational/ General Business License (If out of Orleans Parish you must register your Parish Occupational License with the City of New Orleans, Bureau of Revenue, City Hall, Room 1W15  with a copy of your Parish Occupational License.
  • Proof of Federal ID number
  • Copy of Driver’s License or State Identification Card and previous Electrical License Card.
  • Original copy of State License (if applicable).
  • Inactive Status. Class “A” Electrical Contractor may, by written request and approval from the Director, change his license to inactive status. Inactive status must maintained for a period of one year. Must be renewed each year.

Required documents/steps

  • A letter from Local Union or Employer on company letterhead addressed to the Chief Electrical Inspector requesting Helper’s License with the following:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Complete the respective Electrical License Application
  • Present two current passport size photos
  • Copy of Driver’s License or State Identification and copy of previous license card upon renewal.

In order to ensure public safety through compliance with the International Code Council (ICC) as adopted by the City of New Orleans as well as state regulations, mechanical contractors performing work within the City of New Orleans are required to obtain and renew annually a license from the City.

According to the International Code Council (ICC) and Louisiana Contractors Board as adopted by the City of New Orleans, mechanical contractors performing work within the City of New Orleans are required to obtain and renew annually a Mechanical Contractor License from the City. Gasfitters with ICC certifications can also apply for a Class A A/C Refrigeration license – you may hold either or both, however each have separate tests and separate payments. If you are a State Contractor – statewide you qualify for the Master Gasfitters License.

Duration: One year, renewed on your birthday (late fees apply starting the day after)

Restrictions

Only one Class "A" Master (A/C, Refrigeration and Gasfitters) Mechanical Contractor License holder is allowed per company.

Fees

  • Exam fee – determinded by the ICC
  • $110 fee for the license (Active)
  • $25 fee for the license (Inactive)
  • License renewal late fees are determined by the number of months from the date of your birthday which is your renewal date. It is $10 for each month you are deliquent.

Required documents/steps

Before your new license can be issued you must submit the following that apply to you. There will be no exceptions. Failure to provide the required information will cause a delay of issuance of your license. You must apply in person only if you are a new applicant.

You must submit passing letter from ICC (http://www.iccsafe.org/Accreditation/Pages/default.aspx) or if state tested, a copy of State License (State Wide) qualifying party letter and all listed requirements.
  • Complete the respective Mechanical license application and be 18 years of age or older. You must present and submit:
    • Two current small passport size photos for each license
    • Current proof of insurance. General Liability not less than $500,000 and Workers Compensation no less than the State requirement. (Note: In a situation where applicant claims to have no employees, a notarized affidavit will be needed)
    • Verify “Louisiana General Sales Tax Number” from the Department of Revenue and Taxation. Visit www.revenue.louisiana.gov.
    • Proof of Occupational/ General Business License. If out of Orleans Parish you must register your Parish Occupational License with the City of New Orleans in Room 1W15 located in City Hall with a copy of your Louisiana General Sales Tax Number and a copy of your Parish Occupational License.
    • Federal ID Number
    • State of Louisiana copy of the Articles of Incorporation and Initial Report of (company name)
    • Copy of Drivers License or State Identification
    • Applicable fee
  • Inactive Status: Class "A" Contractors may, by written request and approval from the Director, change his/her license to inactive status. Must still be renewed each year.

Renewals: If you are interested in renewing your license, you may do so by mail or in person. Licenses need to be renewed each year on or before the applicant’s birthday. Note: If your license has lapsed for more than two years, you will be required to take and pay for another test.

In order to ensure public safety through compliance with the Gas and A/C / Refrigeration code and International Code Council (ICC) as adopted by the City of New Orleans as, mechanical and gas contractors performing work within the City of New Orleans are required to obtain and renew annually, a license from the City.

As adopted by the City of New Orleans, mechanical contractors performing work within New Orleans are required to obtain and renew annually a Journeyman Mechanic Contractor License and Gasfitters from the City. You may hold either or both, however each have separate tests and separate payments.

Duration: One year, renewal 90 days prior or before your birthday (late fees apply starting the day after)

Restrictions

  • Any person engaged in the trade of installing or repairing equipment, materials or apparatus must be employed by and work under the supervision of a Class A Master Contractor.

Fees

 

  • Exam fee – determinded by the ICC
  • $55 fee for the license (Active)
  • License renewal late fees are determined by the number of months from the date of your birthday which is your renewal date. It is $5 for each month you are deliquent.
