As the Department of Safety and Permits and the Taxicab and For Hire Vehicle Bureau continue making strides to enhance your customer experience, we have developed an appointment schedule for renewals of all Certificates of Public Necessity and Convenience for the 2014 calendar year.
Our goal is to enable CPNC holders to file renewal applications with representatives of the Bureau without the wait times and lines experienced in 2013. In order to make this goal a reality, Safety and Permits has scheduled all CPNC holders a date and time to appear at the Bureau to have their renewals processed.
These renewal appointments will begin on December 8, 2014 and will be scheduled daily through February 10, 2015
The best way to ensure fast, efficient service is to appear on your scheduled appointment date with your completed application and all required documents. Unless your scheduled appointment is in February, failure to renew CPNCs by January 31 will result in penalty fees pursuant to Section 162-186 of the City Code.
Due to the number of Certificates, it is not possible to reschedule if you are unable to make this appointment. To serve those who may have other obligations which do not allow them to keep this appointment, the Bureau will have morning operating hours on Saturdays in January, during which time we will see customers whose appointment date has passed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Certificates of Public Necessity (or CPNCs) are required of all for hire vehicles - AT Taxicab (Wheelchair-accessible), Pedicabs, Animal Drawn, Courtesy, Limousine, Taxicab, Non-Emergency Medical Transportation, General Charter, Sightseeing - to ensure that every City of New Orleans’ citizen and visitor has access to safe, efficient, reliable, and accessible for hire transportation. Before applying, please familiarize yourself with New Orleans City Code, Chapter 162 and govern yourself accordingly.
In addition, we strive to ensure that every customer is treated with courtesy, dignity and genuine hospitality. We understand that these services are essential to the city’s overall tourism and business industry; therefore, our goal is to work with the citizens, for hire industries, tourism industries, and various stakeholders to implement the highest service standard. These service standards will ensure customer satisfaction and promote the core values and objectives of the New Orleans Taxicab and For Hire Vehicle Bureau.
Duration: Expires each year on Dec. 31, applicants must renew by January 31st, late fees apply after this date. CPNCs not renewed by Mar. 31st will be suspended and set for revocation.
