Winter Weather, Jan. 12-18

The National Weather Service forecasts freezing temperatures in the New Orleans area beginning Friday, Jan. 12 through Thursday, Jan. 18. A mix of very light wintry precipitation is possible in the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 16, but no accumulation is anticipated. Residents and visitors are advised to take precautions during winter weather.

The Board of Building Standards and Appeals is an attached board of the City’s Department of Safety and Permits. Its functions are to:

  • Hear and determine appeals on all matters arising under ordinances or regulations pertaining to the design, construction, alteration and demolition of buildings; and
  • Hear and determine appeals where it is alleged there is an error in any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by an administrative official in the enforcement of building regulations of the City.


The Mayor appoints five members with the approval of the City Council.

  • One member to be a Louisiana State Registered Architect;
  • One member to be a Louisiana State Registered Civil Engineer;
  • One member to be a Louisiana State Licensed General Contractor;
  • One member to be a Louisiana State Registered Mechanical or Electrical Engineer; and
  • One member to be an engineer experienced in fire protection.
